OUR LODGE LEADERSHIP
MASONIC LEADERSHIP... 2024 EDMONDS LODGE #165 OFFICERS.
A Masonic Lodge is led by the Worshipful Master, assisted by twelve other officers, each serving a one year term.
“In our Institution, such is the nature, that while some must, of necessity, rule and teach, so others must, of course, learn, submit and obey. Humility in both is an essential duty. The Brethren elected and appointed to assist in the government of the lodge are too well acquainted with the principles of Freemasonry and the rules of propriety to exceed the power with which they are entrusted, and the brothers are of too generous a disposition to envy their preferment.”
2024 Election & Installation of Officers
Our officers are elected and appointed in the fall and we hold our installation for them in December. This year our installation was tyled and took place on December 9th.
We were honored to have two visiting Worshipful Masters for our installation. A special thank you to Worshipful Master Edwin Ingles of Yancy C. Blalock Lodge Number 265 and Worshipful Master Isiah Brazil of Ashler Lodge Number 121 for your attendance.
2024 Edmonds Lodge #165 Officers
WORSHIPFUL MASTER.
Worshipful Brother Kelly Humann.
The Master’s Jewel is the Square, which is a stonemason’s tool to ascertain true and correct angles of the cut and smoothed stone… thus his Jewel symbolizes virtue. The Worshipful Master is responsible for every single thing within his lodge during his year as Master.
SENIOR WARDEN.
Worshipful Brother Mark Fergeson.
The Senior Warden’s Jewel is the Level, It symbolizes that all Masons meet on the level, without regard to social, political or religious beliefs or status. In the absence of the Worshipful Master, the Senior Warden assumes the Worshipful Master’s duties. The Senior Warden assists the Worshipful Master in opening and closing the Lodge.
JUNIOR WARDEN.
Brother Steve Carter.
The Junior Warden’s Jewel is the Plumb. It is a stonemason’s instrument used for ascertaining the alignment of a vertical surface. It symbolizes upright behavior among Masons. The Junior Warden and is responsible for the Brethren while the Lodge is at ease or refreshment.
SENIOR DEACON.
Brother Mark Wolfe.
The Senior Deacon’s Jewell is the Square and Compass with the Sun in the middle. The sun signifies that his position is on the lower level in the East. His duty is as messenger of the Worshipful Master, to welcome and escort both visitors and candidates into the lodge and introduce distinguished visitors.
JUNIOR DEACON.
Brother Ian Ford.
The Junior Deacon’s Jewel is the Square and Compass, having a moon in the center of the Square and Compass, which signifies that he is in the West. His principle roles are to assist the Senior Warden by carrying messages from the Senior Warden in the West to the Junior Warden in the South and to guard the inner door of the Lodge.
SENIOR STEWARD.
Brother Perry Meyring.
The Senior Steward’s Jewel is the Cornucopia, which signifies the “Horn of Plenty”. It is a goat horn filled with fresh fruits and vegetables to denote the “fruits of your labors” and represents a job well done. His principal role is to prepare candidates during ritual and escort them to the lodge room, assist the Senior Deacon, and handle kitchen duties and wait staff for the members.
JUNIOR STEWARD.
Brother Martin Lutz.
The Junior Steward’s Jewel is also the Cornucopia, which signifies the “Horn of Plenty”. It is a goat horn filled with fresh fruits and vegetables to denote the “fruits of your labors” and represents a job well done. He is tasked as an understudy the Senior Steward and to fill in for the Senior Steward in his absence. He also assists in the preparation of Candidates.
SECRETARY.
Worshipful Brother Roger Pankey.
The Secretary’s Jewel is the Crossed Quill Pens. He is the Lodge’s Recorder. His Duties require a high degree of lodge experience, Masonic knowledge, diplomacy, and, above all, detailed paperwork skills. He handles all correspondence to the members, minutes of Lodge meetings, petitions of new candidates, continuous lodge member count, and many other administrative duties.
TREASURER.
Worshipful Brother Thomas Stone.
The Treasurer’s Jewel is a Pair of Crossed Keys, signifying he is the Collector and Distributor of all Lodge Monies as he holds the keys to the cashbox. The Treasurer is responsible for all financial transactions. He receives all money, pays all debts by order of the Worshipful Master with the consent of the lodge, and renders a report when requested.
MARSHALL.
Very Worshipful Brother Steve Pennington.
The Marshall’s Jewel is the Crossed Batons. He is the Lodge’s Conductor or Master of Ceremonies. The Marshall sits to the left of the Worshipful Master in the East. His duties and principal role is the organization of processions and ensuring the correct precedence and etiquette in formal proceedings.
TYLER.
Worshipful Brother Les Schwartz.
The Tyler’s Jewel is the Sword, by which he symbolically refuses entrance to anyone who is uninitiated in the Craft. The sword has no scabbard, as it is his symbolic duty to always have his sword drawn, ready for the defense of his post. His duties and principal role are to ensure that only those who are duly qualified are allowed to enter the Lodge Room. He guards against cowans and eavesdroppers. During the Middle Ages, a cowan (aka a “jackleg”) was an uninitiated or non-apprenticed stonemason, a man who built stone walls of poor quality.
CHAPLIN.
Brother William Meyring.
The Chaplin’s Jewel of office is an open book, symbolizing the Volume of Sacred Law (the Christian Bible, Hebrew Torah or Tanach, the Muslim Qur’an, the Hindu Vedas, or other Holy Books). He is the spiritual leader of the Lodge, and is responsible for non-denominational prayers at both the opening and closing of meetings, during degree ritual ceremonies, and before meals.
MUSICIAN.
Brother Charles Berry.
The Musician’s Jewel is a Harp, symbolizing music. He provides musical accompaniment to lodge proceedings, although there is no set form. Many lodge rooms are equipped with a piano or other instruments.
